Dr. Hameed Bashiru

Lecturer

Dr. Hameed Bashiru is a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Animal Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He specializes in Quantitative and Molecular Genetics. He graduated from the Department of Animal Sciences, OAU, Ile-Ife, as the “Best Graduating Student” in 2015, receiving multiple university awards. He holds both M.Sc. (2019) and Ph.D. (2024) degrees in Animal Science, also from OAU. He has received several prestigious awards and scholarships, including, the Professor Adebowale Omole Prize for the student with the overall best performance in the Bachelor of Agriculture degree examinations in the Department of Animal Sciences, OAU, Ile-Ife (2015), Dr. Sunday Adeyanju Prize for the best student in the final Bachelor of Agriculture degree examinations in the Department of Animal Sciences, OAU, Ile-Ife (2015), UNIFEMGA Ph.D. Scholarship at OAU (2021–2023), Federal Government of Nigeria Ph.D. Scholarship (2021–2023), and the World Rabbit Science Association Outstanding Young Scientist Award (2024).

As a researcher, he has published peer-reviewed articles in highly reputable local and international journals and has also presented his research findings at various local and international conferences, seminars, and workshops, covering thematic areas such as Quantitative Genetics, Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics, Meta-analysis, Big Data Analytics, Digital Technologies, Climate Change, and Genetics of Livestock Improvement.

He is a member of several professional bodies including, Nigerian Society for Animal Production, Animal Science Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, Genetics Society of Nigeria, and the World Rabbit Science Association (WRSA).
