You are welcome to the Department of Animal Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, where we provide a unique opportunity to learn, air your view and contribute to academic discourse among a community of scholars. The Department’s vision is to be a top rated Animal Sciences Department in Africa, in terms of high quality research and innovation, teaching and community services. In line with these, graduates are provided with adequate knowledge and skills in various fields of Animal Sciences, to enable them carry out research that shall contribute to food security, income generation and gainful employment.

The Department prides itself in working as a family comprising students and members of staff.

Teaching and practical components of our training program ensure students have hands-on experience through active participation in laboratory and farm practical. For research and practical teachings, the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching and Research farm with a size ranking among one of the largest in the West African region, provides the needed facilities in all areas of Animal Sciences.

The Department currently has 13 academic, 5 technical and 4 administrative staff with a combined average of 17 years postdoctoral teaching experience for academic staff and also has high quality and breadth of academic curriculum. The Department has a tradition of hard work, discipline and unparalleled commitment that has earned her excellent rating within and outside the university.

The Career options for Animal Scientists include Animal Nutrition, Physiology and Reproduction, Genetics and Biotechnology and Animal products and Value Addition.
